5.11 OCEAN-BOUND PLASTICS – Plastic waste found within 50 km of an ocean coastline, including rivers, where no municipal or alternative diversion pathway for plastics is available within 100 km of the radius of the site. Note: the sitle could be a coastine, river, manufacturing faclity, store, family, school, etc.
5.12 OCEAN PLASTICS – Plastic waste that has entered the ocean.
5.13 ORIGINATOR – The facility that participates as a suplier of materials, energy, by-products and/or waste in a by-product synergy network.
5.14 PRE-CONSUMER (POST-INDUSTIAL) RECYCLED CONTENT – Material that has never reached the end user, having been diverted from the waste stream during a manufacturing process. Excluded is the retilization of materials generated in a process and capable of being reused as a substitute for a raw material without being modified in any way.
5.15 POST-CONSUMER MATERIAL – Material that has reached its intended end user, and which is no longer being used for its intended purpose.
5.16 RECIPIENT – The facility that participates as a recipient of materials, energy, by-products and/or waste in a by-product synergy network.
5.17 RECOVERED (RECLAIMED) MATERIAL – Material that would have otherwise been disposed of as waste or used for energy recovery, but has instead been collected and recovered (reclaimed) as a material input, in lieu of new virgin material, for a recycling or manufacturing process.
5.18 RECYCLED CONTENT – The proportion of pre-consumer or post-consumer recycled material, by mass, in a product or packaging.
5.19 RECYCLED MATERIAL – Material that has been reprocessed from recovered (reclaimed) material by means of a manufacturing process, and then made into a final product or into a component for incorporation into a product.
5.20 REFURBISHED – A component or part which is removed from a discarded product and has undergone substantial repair, rebuilding or remanufacture before use in a new product or a product which has been removed from service and has been refurbished and returned to the field.
5.21 REUSED – A component or part which is removed from a discarded product and used in a new product with minimal cleaning or cosmetic improvements or a product which is designed to be used mutiple times. COMPLIANCE, EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
6 Byproduct Synergy
6.1 General
6.1.1 Facilities shall provide sufficient documentation for all materials (including leftover materials, by- products, and waste) and/or energy being exchanged, sold, or passed free of change between facilities within the by-product synergy network in order to demonstrate specific by-product synergy practices.UL 2809 pdf download.
